I don't think the add-on hood scoops are worth the money, especially when you consider the cost of an entire hood is only a little more (when everything is said and done).ġ) You can get a hood that features just heat extraction.Ģ) Side scoops (in the little scoop behind the doors) have only been truly functional on the 1965 R-Model GT-350s, and in fact, those cars originally only came with a single scoop with ducting that ran to the pinion. Some ram air ghoods have heat extractors, making them more useful - evacuating heat from the engine compartment is a "good thing" (tm). You can get "ram air" hoods that duct air to the OEM intake, which means it's "functional. If you want to make them functional, you can.Ġ) For the hood scoop, I think you'll be better off with an entire hood. If you want scoops because they look aggressive, add them. And in the end fake hood scoops are no different then spoilers, since they provide as much of a benefit as a fake hood scoop, ie.none, but for some reason some people think a fake hood scoop is lame since it provides no function, and a spoiler is cool (even though on a daily driver, non race car Mustang they provide no benefit whatsoever). All for just a little scoop, that provides almost no benefit but creates problems with rain, bugs and crap that will enter your engine bay. The cost of the hood would be $600-$1000, plus getting it painted would run me another $700 (candy red is a very expensive color). So, I looked at getting a new hood with a real hood scoop that cools the engine (with just the air that gets in the vents, which is the same effect that you would get from driving with no hood on the car). Originally, I was against anything fake on my car, just for the look. I am looking at the hood scoop on the American Muscle website, bolts on and has the honeycomb insert. Ok.Im considering putting stripes, a fake hood scoop and side scoops on my mustang, purely for the aggressive look.
